Wristlet keychain tutorial

Wristlet keychain tutorial

Wristlet keychains are super easy to make and also super practical. Place your house keys on them and then sling them onto your wrist while you go for a walk. Or put your car keys on them and then easy keep them on your wrist while you go shopping.

You can make wristlets from just about anything including ribbon or strips or leather. I’ve created a simple pattern for making this easy wristlets made from 2 strips of faux leather that you can cut out with your cutting machine.

The pattern is easy to download you can just click the link here. Than afterwards just upload it to your design software and then send it to your cutting machine.

What kind of material can you use?

In the picture you can see that I used some holographic fabric sheets I bought online at amazon. Faux vinyl works great because it is non fraying and is easy to cut out with your cutting machine. The only drawback is that the sheets are short and for this project you will need the full length.

You can also use pieces of ribbon that measure 13 inches in length. You just need to cut them out with a pair of scissors, then sear the edge with a lighter to stop the ribbon from fraying. After just add your key ring and pin it closed with a rivet.

If you want to use anything thicker than faux leather you may need to print the pattern out then trace it out and cut it by hand.

What materials do I need?

I recommend cutting out the pattern with a cutting machine like a cricut. Otherwise you can print out the pattern and trace it out by hand. Non fraying fabric like faux leather is perfect and there are so many different typed to choose from like fake animal print, glitter vinyl, or holographic vinyl.

You will also need to find some large key rings such as 1.5″ or at lease 1.25″. If you only can find regular size keyring then just use the smaller band in the pattern.

To close the wristlet around the keychain you need some rivets. They are used for leather crafts and you can find them in kits with the tools. To use the tool you will need to buy a hammer separately.

If you are sewing along the edge of the pattern I recommend a heavy thread. Since the thread will be such a noticeable detail a heavy thread like denim thread or quilting thread will work great.
