How to get traffic to your blog?
When you first start blogging, creating quality content is the best marketing. The most important part to getting traffic to your blog is creating great content. Creating great content takes time and practice. Its something that you figure out through putting out content on a regular bases. You will slowly over time start to see what your audience will respond to.
When you first start off you might be feeling like you are putting a lot of work into writing articles and not getting anything back but the trick is to keep writing. And the views will start to trickle in.
So make sure to set aside a bit of time everyday when you are first starting off. Even if you are busy with kids and a day job you can still find 1hr a day to write. If you are a morning person than try to get up a bit earlier and grab and extra hour before work to draft out a blog post. It can seem less overwhelming if you break your work up into parts. First create a rough outline and then work on a draft. Afterwards you can add images, and format your text.
What do you need to keep in mind when creating great content?
When gaining traffic to a new blog, content is king!
It’s important to create great content so that you will start to gain a loyal audience. So you want to ask your self a few questions before you press publish:
- Is what I wrote okay or is it GREAT?
- Is it well written?
- Is it well formatted?
- Does the post have a great title?
- Is it shareable?
- Is it something your audience wants to read?
Ask your self if it is well written. Check for typos and poor grammar. Make sure it is readable and easy to skim through with short paragraphs. Make sure it is well formatted with enough images and subheads to make it easy to read.
Creating quality content. It’s a good idea to write longer posts. You should try to write posts that are at lest 500 words but 2000 is even better.
Is it formatted correctly? You want to make your post skimable. So keep your paragraphs short to no longer than 3 sentences. Also use list often to make it easy for your readers to absorb info quickly. Bold your text and make sure to not use a small text.
Is it shareable? Make sure to include social media buttons with your post as well as create pinable images.
Is it something your audience wants to read? Make sure to answer questions your audience is looking for. Don’t write an article about hunting on a craft blog etc. Also try to write posts that answer questions your audience is wanting answers too.
Post regularly
The best way to get better at writting is to keep writing. And the best way to gain an audience is to post often. Try to stick to a plan to post at least once a week. Post at the same time every week so that your audience starts to look forward to reading a new post from you.
If you collect emails, which you should, then make sure to send out a newsletter regularly. So often people just visit blogs once to get the info they are looking for and then forget it exists. If you publish a newsletter at least once a week it will remind people to visit your blog.
Get your post out there!
So once you’ve created some great content your audience will enjoy its time to share it. Its important to share on social media so that people can find you. Google SEO is also important but that takes time.
When you are first starting off you can gain some traffic from sharing on pintrest, Facebook, and twitter. If you enjoy making videos you can also create a video to accompany each post.
Youtube is a great way to gain traffic. It can really help bring in traffic if you make an accompanying video for each blog post and then embed it in your post.
Pintrest is one of the best ways to direct traffic to your blog post. Make sure to set up a business pintrest account and then share images that are eye catching and also long in height so they stand out.. Include the title of your post and a description, then link the pintrest post back to your blog. Its important to pin regularly and create boards to post your pins on.
Sharing on Facebook is also a great way to get traffic. I recommend you sign up to a few Facebook groups within the same niche as your blog. After you write a post you can share it to these groups.
